The Cathedral Choir School of Delaware

Welcome!

The Cathedral Choir School of Delaware exists to provide children and youth in Delaware and its surrounding region with professional musical training, leadership development, and college-bound mentoring. This after-school program is in residence at the historic Cathedral Church of Saint John in Wilmington, Delaware, where students find a supportive, intergenerational community.

The Cathedral Choir School is a winner of the prestigious Coming Up Taller Award, our nation's highest honor for after-school youth arts programs.

Through the Choir School scholarship fund, children of all faiths, ages 7-17, receive free professional musical training and mentoring.

Alumni

We have over eight hundred alumni! On our Alumni page, a few of them tell about their experiences as students. If you are an alumnus but not yet on our mailing list for newsletters and invitations, please call the office at (302) 654-6279 or to send an e-mail.

The Donald C. Taylor Legacy Society was created to honor and recognize alumni, parents and friends who share Don Taylor’s passion for making a difference in the lives of young people and who, like Don, have included the Cathedral Choir School of Delaware in their estate plans or have made a gift to the Choir School’s Endowment Fund. Giving

The Cathedral Choir program has been training young singers to become tomorrow’s leaders since 1883. This year the Choir celebrated its 125th anniversary. Students receive almost ten hours per week of professional choral training, piano lessons, leadership development and mentoring. Through the Scholarship Fund, the Cathedral Choir School provides an annual scholarship worth $3,000 to its students, so that every child, regardless of income, can participate. Currently 50 students are enrolled.

Participation in the Cathedral Choir School of Delaware brings unexpected rewards and connections that last a lifetime. Every year, hundreds of alumni, parents, and friends join the Cathedral Choir School's faculty and staff to create exciting opportunities for students ages 7 to 18 to receive the finest musical education possible and to nurture their leadership and citizenship skills in the process. We invite you to participate in this effort by mentoring, and by providing gifts of time and financial support that maximize the Cathedral Choir School experience for all of the youth who participate. Together we can use music as a positive tool to intervene in the lives of young people in the Wilmington area and the region. Click here to learn more about supporting the Choir School.

The Cathedral Choir School of Delaware Mentoring Program is featured this month on the website of the Delaware Mentoring Council.

Please consider our Annual Scholarship Program or Endowment Fund.

Support is provided, in part, by the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, the Trustees of the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware, and by local individuals, businesses and foundations. Click here to see our 2008 Honor Roll of Donors in PDF format.
