The Cathedral Church of Saint John and Wilmington were recently blessed with the presence of Dawn Padmore, who was in town to sing in the Absalom Jones Celebration Concert on February 15. Dawn's performance featured cabaret favorites and jazz standards. The concert helped to raise money for Debnam House Community Center for Children.
Liberian-born, Dawn sang in the Cathedral Church of Saint John's Choir while growing up. Now living in New York City, Dawn Padmore is a versatile singer performing in recital as well as in opera. Operatic roles sung include the Countess, Marriage of Figaro; Lady with the Cake Box, Postcard from Morocco; Elettra, Idomeneo and Pamina, The Magic Flute, with Amato Opera (NYC). She was most recently featured as the Radical woman in the premier of No Easy Walk to Freedom, an opera by Chandler Carter, based on the life of Nelson Mandela.
Described as a "silky soprano," Ms. Padmore has performed as soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Civic Orchestra, Delaware Symphony as a competition winner, and has performed with the Minnesota Opera and Des Moines Metro Opera as a young studio artist. An active recitalist, Ms. Padmore's programs include art songs by West African composers, young American composers as well as those from the standard repertoire. Competitions won include Austrian American Society Competition, the Metropolitan Opera Guild Competition Midwest District Winner, and the Delaware Symphony Concerto Competition.
We wish Dawn continued success in her career!
