The Cathedral Choir School of Delaware will move to the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew in August.

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, FEBRUARY 14, 2012: The Cathedral Choir School of Delaware will remain in the city when it moves from the Cathedral Church of St. John to the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew (SsAM) next August, the Cathedral Choir School Board of Directors announced today.
The choir will continue at the corner of Concord and Market through the remainder of this school year and for five weeks of Brandywine Village Summer Camp. The transition to SsAM will be complete before the 2012-2013 Choir School program year begins in September. Most choristers, mentors and tutors are expected to move with the program.
"The outpouring of offers to provide a home for the choir gratified us and reinforces our deep commitment to this award-winning after school program," said Linda O'Connor, president of the board of directors. "We plan to reach out to center city students to offer them the benefits of music and mentoring that have enriched the lives of current students, many of whom live in at risk neighborhoods."
The Dean of the Cathedral Church of St. John, William B. Lane, said, "I give thanks that the choir has found a new home, with a congregation that shares a deep commitment to urban ministry and appreciation of music in worship and liturgy. I applaud the leadership of the choir school and SsAM for their diligent work to assure the continuation of this fine tradition and service to children and youth."
Recognition of the choir's achievements includes performing at the White House when the program received a "Growing Up Taller Award". The group has also sung in England, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., sharing their music with church congregations and other audiences.
"We are pleased that the choir school has selected us for their new home," said the Reverend David Andrews, Rector at SsAM. "The close alignment of our visions and missions will contribute to a seamless transition and successful future. We look forward to providing a place for mentoring and musical expression throughout each week and regular collaboration of the two choirs in Sunday worship."
Choir school auditions are open to any student aged 7 to 17. The program provides free individual and group vocal lessons. Those interested are encouraged to learn to play the piano with free private lessons and a weighted keyboard for practice at home. In contrast to data reported by Kids Count Delaware, every chorister graduates from high school. In addition, they all continue their educations in college, the military or trade schools.
