Lee Dettra, Assistant Organist
Lee Dettra is a graduate of Westminster Choir College and holds the Master of Sacred Music degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. After 53 years serving churches and universities in Florida, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New York, he "retired" three years ago but does a lot of church substituting and playing recitals.
He served First and Central Presbyterian Church in Wilmington from 1972 to 1985, also teaching organ at the University of Delaware. During this time he founded and conducted Wilmington's Center City Chorale.
From 1985 to 2000 he was organist and choirmaster of the Cadet Chapel at the U. S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., where he presided over the world's largest church organ. He then served Immanuel Episcopal Church on the Green in New Castle until 2008 after returning to Delaware.
He and his wife Janet have three children and four grandchildren. Their son Scott is organist and associate director of music of Washington National Cathedral.
